Lest We Forget

Remembrance Day, or Armistice Day, marks the very day that World War One ended in 1918. We hold a two-minute silence at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month to remember those who have died in this and all other wars and military conflicts. In World War One alone, over 70 million people were mobilised and it left between nine and 13 million dead, with as many as one third of which still have no grave.

It is held on the Second Sunday of November. As most of our Teams have matches on this day, it is an opportunity for all our players, parents, carers, supporters, volunteers and suppliers (to name but a few) to pay tribute, if they choose to.

Poppies are worn as a show of support for the Armed Forces community. Wearing a poppy is still a very personal choice, reflecting individual experiences and memories.

What makes Remembrance 2022 different, is it is the first one since The King’s accession to the throne.
